Welcome to San Carlos
City of Good Living with diverse downtown amenities.
San Carlos is an inviting city with charming neighborhoods and a strong sense of community. Nestled between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the San Francisco Bay, San Carlos is known as the City of Good Living for its wonderful climate, diverse downtown dining, and friendly small-town atmosphere.
View The Market ReportHousing options mostly consist of mid-century and contemporary single-family homes with condominiums close to the downtown area and some older properties dating back to the 1900s.
San Carlos’s charming downtown is anchored by Laurel Street, a walkable commercial stretch with mom-and-pop stores, specialty shops, chic fashion boutiques, craft beer breweries, wine tasting rooms, live music venues, and outstanding restaurants.
Dining
Two of my favorite restaurants are Town and Johnston’s Saltbox. Town is a stylish spot for regional American cooking with specialties such as wood-fired rotisserie chicken, fresh seafood, and succulent steaks and chops. Town’s centerpiece is a large oval bar where skilled bartenders prepare delicious handcrafted cocktails.
Johnston’s Saltbox combines European influences with Californian farm-to-table dining. Saltbox has a beautiful outdoor dining area and fantastic weekend brunch specials. Savanna Jazz hosts nightly performances from talented local and touring jazz acts. Many of the craft beer breweries and wineries along Washington Street also feature frequent live music.
Things To Do
Many parks are dotted throughout the community. Burton Park is a popular spot with a water spray play feature and free concerts in the summer. 16-acre Big Canyon Park and 57-acre Eaton Park together form one contiguous wilderness area with hiking trails running through grasslands, woodlands, and chaparrals. Other attractions include the Hiller Aviation Museum at San Carlos Airport. The museum features exhibits and 50 airplanes illustrating the history of aviation in Northern California.
Schools
San Carlos has many excellent public schools operated by the San Carlos Elementary School District.
