Redwood City is a hub for government in San Mateo County and one of the largest cities in the mid-peninsula and Silicon Valley. Redwood City enjoys a good climate with warm dry summers and cool winters. In fact, since the 1920s one of the city’s mottos has been “Climate Best by Government Test.”
Redwood City offers plenty of places to get out and enjoy the good weather.
The community has more than 30 parks, miles of hiking trails leading into the Santa Cruz Mountains, and water-based activities on the San Francisco Bay.
Redwood City is located at the midpoint between San Francisco and San Jose. Highways and Caltrain make this an ideal spot for commuting into those two metropolises or any of the nearby Silicon Valley tech hubs. Redwood City has many distinctive neighborhoods and a wide range of home styles, from tracts of mid-century single-family homes to contemporary waterfront properties on the SF Bay.
Redwood City has a vibrant revitalized downtown area anchored by Courthouse Square. This large public gathering space, located in front of the city’s stately 1910 courthouse, hosts a variety of outdoor concerts, movie screenings, and cultural events during the summer.
Dining
In the heart of Downtown Redwood City is the Cinemark Movie Theater that is surrounded by many shops and restaurants. Find yourself hungry after a movie, visit Vesta's which offers a delightful outdoor dining experience and is known for their pizza and small plate grilled food. Broadway Marsala is a wonderful authentic Indian Food restaurant just a block from the theater. Looking for a festive outdoor patio to have a margarita, chips and fish tacos, try Milagros Latin Restaurant. Visit the historic Fox Theater that opened in 1929 and has always been a popular venue to see live shows and concerts.
Things To Do
Highlights include the weekly Music on the Square free concert series and regular ART on the Square arts-and-crafts markets. Later in the year, the square hosts a Munich-style Oktoberfest and the festive Hometown Holidays celebration.
The city’s many parks offer a huge amount of outdoor recreation space. Edgewood Park is my favorite hike, with trails winding through 467 acres of picturesque woodlands and grasslands. Head to Edgewood Park in the spring and early summer to see its grassland areas blossom with colorful wildflowers. Lots of Redwood City’s parks are also canine-friendly.
Main Street Dog Agility Park has hurdles, ramps, tunnels, and other obstacles to give your dog a fun workout in the heart of downtown. There’s also off-leash trails at 42-acre Stulsaft Park and a large gated gathering place for your four-legged friends at Shore Dogs Park.
