Welcome to Los Altos
Small town in a desirable location with a great downtown.
Los Altos is a small town with a great downtown and hugely desirable proximity to the tech companies of Silicon Valley. The community mostly consisted of fruit orchards and summer cottages until the 1950s. Since then, Los Altos has been a pivotal site in Silicon Valley’s emergence as the epicenter of global tech innovation.
The Los Altos garage where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak launched Apple in the 1970s is a historic landmark, as is the property where Mark Zuckerburg and other developers perfected Facebook in the mid-2000s.
The town’s neighborhoods offer an eclectic mix of mid-century single-family homes, striking contemporary architecture, and breathtaking custom-built architectural gems nestled in the privacy of the surrounding hillsides and open space preserves.
Dining
The Village is Los Altos’ diverse downtown hub, with over 150 shops and restaurants covering a six-block radius. Here, you’ll find stylish fashion boutiques, cute cafés, grocery stores, specialty shops, and a wide range of high-quality international restaurants. Los Altos Farmers’ Market is held in Downtown Los Altos on Thursday evenings between late April and September. This certified farmers’ market has vendors offering fresh produce, gourmet food trucks, and a children’s crafts area with a focus on nutrition education.
People & Lifestyle
This verdant community has lots of parks and greenspace. Grant Park and Rosita Park both have several sports courts and fields along with a diverse lineup of free concerts in the park during the summer. Other popular annual events include the two-day Los Altos Art & Wine Festival in July. The festival features dozens of top artists from across the country and select vintages from the best local wineries. There’s also international food and snacks, live entertainment, carnival rides, and an activity-packed kids’ zone. In August, a ten-day Sidewalk Sale promises bargain buys from many downtown retailers. The Festival of Lights Parade on the weekend after Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season with a parade of floats through the streets of Los Altos.
Schools
For young families, Los Altos offers excellent schools in the Los Altos Elementary and Mountain View-Los Altos High School Districts.
